By and large, the should be no problem at all if your wisdom tooth just fully erupted. However, here at our Denville dental practice, wisdom tooth woes arise out of impacted wisdom tooth. Impaction occurs because as the last set of teeth to erupt between the ages of 17 to 24, there isn’t enough space anymore for them to fully come through.
When a Wisdom Tooth Becomes Problematic
As mentioned earlier, your wisdom tooth become problematic if it becomes impacted. The following signs and symptoms have been associated with an impacted wisdom tooth:
- pain and swelling near the gum area where impaction is present
- persistent bad breath due to the occurrence of infection or presence of abscess in the area
- a bad taste in the mouth
- tenderness when biting or chewing
- presence of cysts or tumors near the area of impaction
- gum disease
- presence of earache
Other serious symptoms of impacted wisdom tooth that needs immediate attention include swelling of the face and/or jaw, muscles spasms in the jaw, presence of lymph nodes particularly near the chin area, and fever.
