What Are Veneers Porcelain?

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic that are custom made to fit over a tooth. Dentists often use veneers in dental makeovers because they hide stains, chips and other imperfections on otherwise healthy teeth. Porcelain veneers look just like a natural tooth would, they even reflect light in the same way that a natural tooth does.

What Do Porcelain Teeth Cost?

Your porcelain veneers cost will depend on the type of veneers that you select and how many teeth you wish to have done. Contact us to schedule a consultation with our dentist, who will explain your options and give you an estimate of your total porcelain veneers cost for each type and number of veneers. While there are exceptions, dental insurance rarely covers the cost of veneers, as they are a cosmetic procedure.

Are Dental Veneers Similar to Crowns?

Porcelain veneers cover only the front of a tooth, and they are generally cosmetic. Porcelain crowns encase the entire tooth and can add strength to a weakened tooth or they can support a bridge. Both are permanent restorations because they are cemented to your existing tooth.

Can I See Before and After Pictures?

Yes, you will be amazed at how much better our patient’s smiles appear with a porcelain veneer covering a flaw that marred an otherwise ideal smile. You can see how drastically veneers alter a person’s smile. After the procedure, you can expect a boost of self-confidence with your new, attractive, and natural-looking smile.

What is the Porcelain Veneers Procedure?

The first thing that our dentist does is to make an imprint of your teeth to send to the lab that will create your custom veneer. Next, he or she will take a minuscule bit (typically one millimeter or less) of the enamel off the front of your tooth so it can hold your porcelain veneer, which the dentist will affix to your tooth using dental cement. If you have a very unsightly tooth that bothers you, we might be able to place a temporary veneer over the tooth until the lab is finished making your permanent veneer.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

Veneers are very durable, and yours should last at least a decade, but your behavior will determine the lifespan if your veneers. Be sure to brush and floss each day. If you get a cavity on the back of your tooth, it may affect the veneer. Don’t bite down on very hard foods as a veneer will crack just like a tooth will if you put too much pressure on it.

Are Lumineers® Veneers as Well?

Yes, Lumineers® are veneers, but they are much thinner than traditional veneers. The dentist removes less enamel from the front of your tooth or you may not need any enamel removed with these veneers. While Lumineers are ultra-thin, they are very durable and they may last for several decades.
